TRANS-PERFORMATIONAL GAMES

There on the edge of the largest mountain in the world,

surrounded by the biggest ocean anywhere, the intrepid space

gypsies played again like people who loved to be enchanted. This

was the call to the performing artists. They came with friends of

like spirit and played in the garden by the big Banyan tree.

They entered the field of play with sounds that came when

pacing through the arms of the giant Banyan.

The children watched from their perched positions high up in the arms of

the great Banyan.

They learned of the ancient story telling secrets as they gazed

upon the pond in the secret garden.

Then the sun god called out to them: "Find your hidden characters!"

There in the shade emerged the two tropical sisters

who knew just how to cool themselves off from his rays.

Others adorned themselves with pieces of clothing and make- up that

evoked secret identities deep in their ancient dream.

And finally they completed their time of remembering with a sacred dance

to musical instruments as old as time itself.

Then they feasted and gathered in the amphitheater for the show was

about to begin.

They nestled in to see which of their friends would come forward on stage

and reveal a bit more of their secret identities. Then came Fare Malaangni

O'Kohala, the dancers and drummers.

Next, the stage of Artesia gave way to Amelia, and her rousing "Awake the

Snake" performance. She invited the crowd to join in her celebration of

movement.

There were surprise performances, by not just one, but two didjeridoo

players, Jay Esterle and Dendra Durr, Europe's most outstanding didj

player!

The party continued into the night with dancing, drumming and

merriment.

Artesia is potentially a nursery, a country club, a night club, and a

celebratory church all combined into a new form. This is happening in a

small but really hip town known as Hawi.
